It’s cold and grey here at BedandBreakfastworld.com HQ and we need a good read to distract us from the weather. Send us your best and worst holiday stories and we’ll feature you as a guest blogger along with a link to your own blog or website.

Here’s one reader’s experience to get you inspired:

“On a round-the-world trip a few years ago I travelled with a friend from Mexico, through Guatemala to Belize. On arrival in Belize City, we headed to the place we were staying only to find it run down and deserted. Eventually we managed to locate a member of staff, who showed us to a tiny, dirty room with a broken lock on the door. As we were tired from the journey and only planning to stay one night, we didn’t complain and instead headed out to find some food.

“We walked for quite a while without finding anything open until we came across a Chinese takeaway; by this time we were starving so we decided that would do. While we were standing at the counter deciding what to have, a local man kept pestering us and asking what we wanted. As we placed our order with the server, this man repeated everything we said to the server and then demanded money for the service he had just provided.

“We left with our food and walked back to where we were staying, feeling we were quite likely to get stabbed by one of the large groups of men lurking on the street corners. As there was no lock on the door to our room, we had been forced to carry all of our valuables with us.

“We made it back in one piece, ate our food then went to bed. In the morning we woke up covered in bed bug bites. We washed, packed and headed straight for the bus back to Mexico! We did give Belize a second chance later on and had a great time – just avoid Belize City if possible!”
