The Royal Wedding has done wonders for Britain’s online profile, according to a report by TravelMole., the country’s national tourism website, said that the number of fans of its Facebook page, Love UK, doubled in the days leading up to the big day, while its Twitter account was in the top 1% of influential users.

More than 2 billion people around the world are estimated to have watched the event on TV, and internet service provider Akamai said that the wedding was the 6th largest web event in history.

VisitBritain boss Sandie Dawe said, “This marks the start of our four-year marketing programme. With events such as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Games in prospect, we want to take a message of warmth, fun and celebration to the world and send out an invitation to visit Britain.”
