The End of the Golden Mile

Blackpool. The very name conjures up fish and chips, stripy beach chairs and kiss-me-quick hats. Beloved destination for family holidays and hen parties, Britain’s seaside scene wouldn’t be the same without it.

But now, one of Blackpool’s most iconic landmarks will be losing its name, according to an article in Travelmole. The Golden Mile, home to funfairs, twinkly lights and more amusement arcades than you can shake a stick of rock at, will now be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Promenade.

A£100 million makeover is set to give the seafront street a brand new look, which local politicians believe deserves a brand new name.

Peter Callow, leader of the council, said: “Our new promenade is going to be world class so we believe it deserves a new title.”
