Colour Me B&Beautiful

A Norwich B&B owner is matching his fashion to his decor, with the help of Norwich Evening News’ Life Matters team.

Clive Harvey wrote to the newspaper asking for a style makeover that would reflect the quirky personality of his business and home.

Clive, 61, moved into the Regency listed building in 2006 and set about turning it into boutique bed and breakfast Gothic House, with bright colours, impressive artwork and elaborate antique furniture.

He describes himself as a ‘flamboyant character’ and loves dressing up in suits and bow ties, but finds when it comes to the practicalities of running a busy B&B, he turns to the old sweatshirts and faded chinos for comfort and convenience.

The Life Matters team came to his rescue with the ‘smart/casual’ look, suggesting a pair of dark jeans coupled with a shirt and jacket for a look that is smart enough to welcome guests in but is also comfortable enough to carry out the daily tasks of running a B&B.

Adding a colourful waistcoat or cardigan under the jacket provides a splash of colour and a signature bow tie tops it all off with the all-important quirky edge.

On seeing his new look, Clive said, “I have never been afraid of mixing and matching colours and patterns but running a business from home has made me fall into a big hole when it comes to my style. Having someone else tell me how to dress has given me the shake up I needed to take pride in my appearance once again… I now feel as quirky as Gothic House!”
