We’re all going on a summer holiday. Or are we?

Early-year predictions in the travel industry named South Africa, Canada, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Egypt and Morocco as the top holiday destinations for 2010. It was also predicted that we would see a rise in the number of ‘staycations’, with people choosing to holiday in their local area for economic or environmental reasons.

Cape Town in South Africa - predicted to be one of this year's holiday hotspots.

Nobody could have predicted the disruption caused by the dreaded Icelandic ash cloud, which has caused many of us to think twice about booking foreign holidays, or to look for alternative means of getting there.

2010 was also predicted to be the year of the B&B, with more travelers looking for cheaper accommodation, as well as the popularity of ‘shabby chic’ in the world of interior design.

So, halfway through the year and about to embark on my own ‘staycation’ touring the west coast of Ireland, I thought I would ask all you B&B fans out there how you have been/will be holidaying this year. Have recent events caused you to change your plans? Will you be heading abroad this year or staying at home? Are you a recent B&B convert or a long-time B&B lover? Are you a B&B owner who has seen a significant change in booking numbers this year? Leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts.
