Looking for some unusual accommodation?

Holiday one-upmanship and how to beat it…

You all know the scene. You’ve just booked a fantastic holiday, you’re getting excited and already planning what to wear on the plane*, then you start to tell a friend about it only to be told, ‘Oh we went there a few years ago. Frankly, it wasn’t as good as such-and-such. Have you been there? It’s fabulous.’

Or, you come back from spending a month living with monks and trekking the Himalayas only to have your colleague at work tell you that they did the Himalayas thing before it got commercial. Blindfolded. With no shoes and only a ham sandwich for sustenance.

Well here’s a list of truly bizarre B&Bs which should help you avoid this irritating post-holiday ritual (or at least make it hard for them…)

Is it a dog? Is it a B&B? Well, it’s both. Sweet Willy, the Beagle B&B in Idaho, USA.

A concrete sewage pipe in Austria – apparently you only pay what you think it’s worth…

Old wine-making barrels in Stavoren, Holland.

My favourite: Utter Inn, Sweden. They row you out and leave you there.

The cockpit of an old Bristol freighter in Otorohanga, New Zealand

See the full list here

I’m guessing our feature ‘How to create a top B&B‘  may not apply in these cases. If you’ve stayed in any of these places, or somewhere just as weird and wacky, we’d love to hear from you, so leave us a comment below. Or book a slightly more normal B&B here.

*Is that just me?

Amazing! I still can’t get over the “Sweet Willy B&B” gives a whole new meaning to being in the dog house!
