A 13th-century bastide village in the Dordogne region of South West France, is the location of today’s top B&B, Maison No. 20 in Eymet.
Set in an ancient stone house, close to the picturesque village square with its charming shops and restaurants, the chambre d’hôtes boasts a number of beautifully appointed guestroooms, as well as an elegant living room and a well-equipped guest kitchen.
The rooms are light and airy, and furnished with classic French antiques. Comfy beds with soft, luxurious linens ensure a restful night’s sleep, and fluffy white towels and complimentary toiletries await you in the stylish en-suite bathrooms.
There is always something to do in the Dordogne region, be it visiting the traditional markets in nearby medieval towns, canoeing on the river or visiting the prehistoric cave paintings at Les Eyzies. Wine lovers will enjoy sampling some of the fine local wines, while history buffs can fill their days wandering the grounds of ancient chateaux.
Eymet itself is a lively village with plenty going on all year round, including numerous festivals with plenty of food and music, such as the Oyster and Wine Festival on Sunday 15th August.
Guests who want to take that French feeling home with them can pick up a souvenir in La Boutique, a small shop where the owners sell a lovely selection of vintage and modern French products. Alternatively, they can attend one of the B&B’s cookery classes, where they will learn to prepare delicious regional specialities using local ingredients (available from autumn 2010).
